Town History: Mooresville was founded in 1873 and named for John Franklin Moore, who convinced the Atlantic, Tennessee and Ohio railroad to run tracks through the center of town. With the tracks came the mill industry and Mooresville became home to many large businesses.
The buildings of downtown have been carefully preserved to showcase the history of the town, and are still home to businesses such as D.E. Turner Hardware store, which is more than 100 years old.
Mooresville maintains its quaint, southern charm, even as the community is booming with new business and industry. Home to more than 60 race teams, as well as the headquarters of many national companies, Mooresville was voted a "Top Ten Place in the US for Economic Development" in 2006.
Interstate Access: Mooresville can be accessed via I-77, exits 33 and 36. The western side of Mooresville features many Lake Norman waterfront communities located off of Brawley School Road, River Hwy, and Williamson Road. The historic downtown Mooresville is located on the eastern side of I-77.
